The purpose of the fund is to promote sustainable development in science, research and development and thus accelerate innovation development in the Slovak Republic. Special attention should be paid to the promotion of development and conceptual studies, setting out the main areas of use of scientific, research and development solutions.
The Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic is a central body of the state administration for selected economic activities. The main task and activity of the agency is support to domestic and international R&D projects developed by government research institutes, universities, private enterprises and non-profit organisations. RDA provides specific financial support for research and development projects solutions and for developing projects to domestic bodies according to criteria approved by the agency presidium.
VEGA is a joint advisory body of the Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sports and an auxiliary body of the presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) for projects selected for funding from institutional finance resources under two sub-chapters of the State Budget: the University-based science and technology, and the Slovak Academy of Science. The key activity of the VEGA is to support basic research in the SAS and universities in general and institutional finance in particular.
The main activity of the academy is top quality basic research in selected sciences on nature, technology and society. Selected institutes and/or research teams also participate in the applied research projects. These activities are performed in 70 institutes. There are a number of (internal) centres of excellence associated with the academy and its institutes. Research projects are financed mainly from the VEGA and RDA grants, foreign grants (EU Framework Programmes) and private sector.
Slovak Business Agency (previously the National Agency for Development of SMEs - NADSME) aims to support the development and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Slovakia with the aim to improve the competitiveness of the sector within the single EU market and the markets of third countries. The Slovak Business Agency is one of main managers of the Structural Funds projects on innovation and applied research in Slovakia.
The Slovak Government Council for Science, Technology and Innovations is an expert, advisory, initiative and coordination body of the Slovak Government. Its role is to coordinate the cooperation of public and private sector organisations in ensuring the objectives of the science and technology and innovation policies and comprehensively assess the materials of central state administration bodies in the field of science, technology and innovation.
Slovenská záručná a rozvojová banka, a.s. (SZRB) was established in 1991 and is a specialised financial institution (joint-stock company) owned by the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic (MoF) with the mission to support and develop small and medium-sized businesses on the basis of partnership and cooperation with commercial banks and other institutions supporting this segment. The Bank applies financial instruments which help establish new business entities, contribute to their stabilisation as well as to the further development of existing companies.
Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA) carries the information service for the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, with special focus on innovations and energy sector. It gathers processes and disseminates information related to the increase of energy efficiency, using of renewable energy sources, combined heat and power and the development of innovation activities.
