This section provides short information on the main relevant Organisations within the national R&I system.
Mokslo, inovacijų ir technologijų agentūra (MITA)

Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA) is the main governmental institution, responsible for implementation of innovation policy in Lithuania. Briefly, it is a national innovation agency.

MITA provides free of charge services for clients from business, science and public sectors, interested in possibilities to develop strong cooperation relations with international partners and get financial support for research and innovation projects.

Europos Socialinio Fondo Agentura (ESFA)

The European Social Fund Agency (ESFA or Agency) is a limited liability public non-profit legal institution. ESFA Initially was named Human Resources Development Programmes Support Foundation and was established by the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania in August, 2002.

Lietuvos Verslo Paramos Agentura (LVPA)

Public Institution Lithuanian Business Support Agency (LBSA) is a non-profit institution established by the Ministry of Economy for the purpose of administering European Union (EU) support and co-financing funds. As the executive institution in the structure for the administration of EU funding in Lithuania, LBSA administers EU funding granted for the development of Lithuanian business, R&D, tourism, and the energy sector.

LR Ukio Ministerija

The mission of the Ministry is to promote the welfare and employment providing favorable legal and economic environment for private and public businesses.

Lietuvos Respublikos Švietimo ir mokslo ministerija (SMM)

The Ministry of Education and Science is a Government Institution of the Republic of Lithuania. It is responsible for educational and R&D policy development and implementation measures.

Finansų ministerija

The Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania is an executive body, the mission of which is to formulate and implement an effective policy of public finance in order to ensure the country's macroeconomic stability and economic development. The strategic objectives of the Ministry include the formulation of fiscal policy which promotes trust in macroeconomic stability, and ensures effective and economical management, and use of public funds and European Union assistance.

Mokslo ir studijų stebėsenos ir analizės centras (MOSTA)

Research and Higher Education Monitoring and Analysis Centre (MOSTA) is a state budgetary institution, an analytical and advisory body. MOSTA draws up recommendations on the development of the national research and higher education systems, performs monitoring functions, analyses the state of the Lithuanian research and higher education systems, and participates in the development and implementation of research, higher education and innovation policies.

The founder of MOSTA is the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania.

Valstybinis studijų fondas (VSF)

The Foundation's mission is the implementation of the state policy in the field of science and higher education through the administration of monetary resources ascribed to the Foundation, while ensuring their efficient usage, seeking to promote the development of studies, and administrating state loans for students.

Lithuanian State Science and Studies Foundation activities:

  • preparation of textbooks of higher education schools, scientific monographic studies and other scientific work;
  • state loans for students of higher schools.

The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, seeking to implement humanistic ideals, democracy and the well-being of the Republic of Lithuania and to contribute to strengthening the State, has the following main objectives:
