The rise of digital technologies has brought about rapid changes in the way innovation is created and diffused, redefining entire industries. This paper investigates the role that innovation plays in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe (CESEE), analysing the innovation performance and investment efforts in different countries in the region.

As part of the European Semester every member state submits its National Reform Programme to present the steps taken in response to the country specific recommendations given by the European Council, as well as the measures they have adopted in order to achieve the headline targets defined for the implementation of the Europe 2020 Strategy. Hungary presents key measures and steps to improve competitiveness and the business environment, as well as projects aimed at developing the society’s human resources.

The aim of the document introducing the situation and vision of the Hungarian research infrastructures is to present to the European Union how Hungary plans the issue of one of the particularly important RDI resources, namely the research infrastructures (RI). The document presents the vision for national RIs and, related to it, presents in detail the situation of the Hungarian RI and the process, in the framework of which the Hungarian RIs have been assessed within the National Research Infrastructure Survey and Roadmap project.

The original National Research and Development and Innovation Strategy (2013-2020) was reviewed in 2016 in view of the national and international developments in the field and a decision was made to update the strategy. Currently there is a version offered for public consultation which will serve as the basis for the final updated strategy. It is based on the analysis of the current situation and the strategic aims and goals were adjusted accordingly. It also contains an outlook for 2030. It is a version for public consultation and not accepted by the Government.

This MLE aims to support national participation in EU Framework programmes, as well as to exploit synergies in using ESIF at the national level. The Synthetic Synergies Paper documents all aspects of "Synergies" covered in the workshops.

The R&I Observatory country report 2017 provides a brief analysis of the R&I system covering the economic context, main actors, funding trends & human resources, policies to address R&I challenges, and R&I in national and regional smart specialisation strategies. Data are from Eurostat, unless otherwise referenced and are correct as at January 2018. Data used from other international sources are also correct to that date. The report provides a state-of-play and analysis of the national level R&I system and its challenges, to support the European Semester.
