Applied Research and Communications Fund (ARC Fund) is a private non-profit organisation established in Sofia in 1991. Today it is one of the leading Bulgarian non-government organisations (NGOs) working to advance the development of a modern knowledge-based society that harnesses the power of information technologies and innovations. ARC Fund is involved in the efforts to shape policies and developments towards information society and knowledge economy in the national and international contexts.
The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) is a national autonomous association for scientific research, which includes academic institutes and other independent research entities. The National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (NEAA) is a statutory body for evaluation, accreditation and monitoring of the quality in higher education institutions and scientific organisations aiming at the enhancement of their teaching and research, as well as at their development as scientific, cultural, and innovative organisations. The Agency monitors the ability of institutions, their main units and branches to provide good quality of education and scientific research through an internal quality assurance system.
The main goal of the National Innovation Fund is to promote research and development activities. The direct objective of the Fund is to promote the implementation of research and development projects and projects for technical feasibility with the aim of acquiring new or improved products, processes or services designed to raise the economic efficiency, improve the innovative potential and technological level of enterprises, increase private investment and enhance the dynamics of innovative processes.
The National Science Fund (NSF) is a supportive and consultative body of the Ministry of Education and Science. It is one of the primary sources of financing of scientific research. The establishment of NSF was one of the first steps in introducing project-based funding by the Bulgarian government.
The Patent Office is the National State Authority for legal protection of the industrial property rights. It grants patents for inventions and certificates for utility model registration. It certificates industrial designs, trademarks, service marks, appellations of origin, and other documents for the protection of the industrial property rights. The mission of the Patent Office is to promote innovation, competitiveness, entrepreneurship, and to spur the economic growth for the benefit of the whole Bulgarian society.
