Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO)

Main activity summary

The Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) was set up in 2009 with the aim to provide an enabling framework to further encourage collaborative research between the University of Malta and third parties and to attract private research funding. With a view to enlarging the scope of activities of the KTO a start-up development facility, the TakeOff Business Incubator, was launched in April 2014. It is co-funded through EU Structural Funds. The university also launched the TakeOff Seed Fund Award in collaboration with central government. This funding programme is designed to support early-stage technology and start-up, awarding grants of between €2,500 and €20,000 (total budget €100,000).
